Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 29 January 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-11991

That the Parliament commends the launch of the Simon Fraser Memorial Lecture, which, it understands, held its first event on 24 January 2024 at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, and will be held annually going forward; recognises what it sees as the pivotal role that the Lewis-based solicitor, Simon Fraser, played in Scotland’s most notable community buyouts to date, including those in Eigg, Assynt, Gigha, South Uist, Galson and North Harris; recognises what it sees as Simon's commitment to empower communities through community ownership, and his belief in the connection between island prosperity and community ownership; commends Community Land Scotland for its role in organising the inaugural lecture, as well as for its wider work in supporting and promoting community land buyouts across Scotland, and wishes the annual event every success for the future.
