  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 January 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-11820

That the Parliament congratulates Hamish Morgan, of Hume Roofing and Property Maintenance in Hawick, on coming second in the UK-wide 2023 SkillBuild competition, which showcases some of the brightest talent in construction from across the UK; understands that the prestigious competition brings together highly skilled learners and apprentices to battle it out to be crowned winner of their chosen trade; notes that, following the regional qualifiers, which were held at various colleges across the UK earlier in 2023, the national final took place at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, where Hamish represented Scotland at the event; understands that the UK-wide competition lasted three days, as competitors were tasked with constructing a project designed by an expert panel of judges, within an 18-hour timeframe; notes that the SkillBuild competition tests the individual's knowledge and skills in their chosen trade, as well as their ability to work under pressure, ensuring that they adhere to health and safety protocols; commends Hamish’s project, which earned him second place overall, and wishes him well in his career moving forward.
