Challenge Poverty Week and the Role of Psychology

  • Submitted by: Alex Cole-Hamilton, Edinburgh Western, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 29 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22873

That the Parliament notes that 5 to 11 October 2020 is Challenge Poverty Week 2020; believes that poverty and social inequality are persistent, systemic, problems with wide-ranging consequences for people, families, and communities; understands that psychological evidence enables society to identify and understand some of the barriers that policy approaches to addressing poverty can create, and welcomes the British Psychological Society’s campaign, Poverty to Flourishing, which considers how a psychological approach to policymaking can help build foundations to improve mental health and children’s development and bolster community resilience.
